The Houston Food Bank

The Houston Food Bank is a solution to both hunger and food waste. America’s largest and nationally-recognized Food Bank of the Year in 2015, the Food Bank distributes 83 million nutritious meals through its network of 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger-relief charities in southeast Texas, feeding 800,000 individuals each year.

The Houston Food Bank welcomes youth groups to help sort and package food, while passing along the value of volunteerism to the younger generation. Projects vary based on need and may include inspecting and sorting food, repacking dry food into family-sized bags, and stocking the Emergency Food Pantry.

Volunteering with the Food Bank is a great opportunity to gain the service hours that many schools require for graduation.
